Cerefolin to Combat Memory Deficit

The ingredients in Cerefolin are Methylcobalamin, L-methylfolate and N-acetylcysteine. Cerefolin is said to be an innovative, therapeutic approach which addresses homocysteine and oxidative stress linked to progressive memory loss. There have been case studies which have shown oral supplementation with NAC, in addition to folate and vitamin B12 therapy, may reduce the effects of oxidative stress and improve cognitive function in patients with memory deficit.

As people age, reduced antioxidant levels pave the way for increased risk for disease and age-related conditions such as memory loss. No matter how healthy, fit or nutrition-conscious an individual has been, bombardment with environmental contaminants provokes some degree of oxidative stress. This increases the demand for antioxidants at a time when the body is producing less.

We have a friend who has been prescribed Cerefolin NAC for pain and numbness in her arms. She is in her 80's. Does that sound right? Is this used for pain? It works, but our issue is with the cost. Are there substitute generic drugs? Is it possible to combine over the counter vitamins to achive the same effect as Cerefolin NAC?
